Rear Deck Grill
For those individuals out there that have completely restored an early 911 what have you done to restore the original chrome deck grill? I've purchased a new black plastic one so I can remove the original one and get it restored but have no idea who does that kind of work.

You should check out the Alfa Giuletta restoration project in European Car magazine. In a recent issue (I forget which, possibly Feb or March) , they outline in great detail the steps taken in chrome restoration, and explain how to choose a shop to do the work. A university library would be a good place to find back issues, if you have one nearby.

Ken, I have a 1968 and I believe that my rear deck lid grill is made of aluminun and not chromed steel.
To get my grill looking new I took it apart and used aluminum wheel polish on each "slat", it looks brand new! |

I did wind up takeing it apart and using paint remover on the black paint someone had sprayed on it. I then took a little aluminum polish and it does look like new. Better yet non of the slats are loose any more. I was quite suprised that each piece was numbered!
