New Targa in Town, with pix!
Hi Everyone! I finally talked my dad into selling me his '88 Targa! Despite the fact that I've had and obsessed over other Porsches, I've been drooling over this one since he brought it home new when I was in college. My dad and I have always had a thing together over P-Cars, starting with his desert beige '74 911S Targa. His fever started with a 356B coupe way back when which he bought new. Anyway, this venetian blue targa is in phenomenal shape, bone stock and beautiful. The window seals need work, as does the headliner for the top. But she burns no oil and runs like a watch. Clutch is iffy as a trip thru Malibu traffic revealed on Sunday.
I've been lurking on the Board for abut a week and have been very impressed by the depth of knowledge and the willingness to help others. Thanks in advance for all your help and I hope to add some good stuff too! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I'd like some wider wheels with chrome lip and the star portion. Where to find?

Welcome aboard. I like your new obsession. Targa top + SoCal = great combo. Look out you're already talking mods!

I'm in possession of the coveted "7's & 9's" combination of Fuchs. I got lucky, they were on it when I bought the car. I believe you have 6's & 7's. Your choices would be to put spacers in the rear to move the wheel outboard more to align with the flare, or to get some 8's or 9's and move your 7's to the front. Check the classifieds section on this board for wheels. 9's will fetch a premium, but 8's should be easy to find. Then send the set to Al Reed or Harvey Weidman for the finish of your choice. To identify your widths, look for a number stamped into the backside of the wheel 6Jx16 = 6", 7Jx16 = 7". Don't rely on measuring across the outer edges of the wheel. This measurement will be larger than the width measurement that is used for tire widths.

I agree. They look like 6+7 x 16.
Keep that car as it is. Looks great! (look at the Blaupunkt - as new!) |

I have 9's on the rear of my RS inspired look, they will fit no problem. Just make sure the wheels and/or tires don't rub on the oil lines. I need to install 1/4" spacers for piece of mind.

No mods, no rolling, no rubbing, and I lowered the car to just above Euro height. 245/45's. Narrower tires would be stretched quite a bit to fit on the 9" rim. Sweet, ain't they ![]()
