Front bumper License Plate Options

Just had a IROC FG bumper installed. Any creative suggestions regarding mounting the "required" front license plate.

How did you guys handle it on RSR, IROC bumpers?

Cheers

If you a using the front opening for an oil cooler that is going to be a tough one to put a plate on.

It looks like the only place is on the flat part of the bumper itself.

I say leave the thing off. Carry it with you and if a cop roughs you up about it in all likelihood you'll just get a fix-it ticket at which time you can just mount in infront of the oil cooler for inspection reasons, then take it off when you get home. Front plates just wreck the look of an IROC bumper in my opinion.

I wonder.,.,.,.,.,...,.,could you drill tiny holes in the front plate to allow air. Small holes that a cop wouldnt see driving by you, but could only tell if he was standing in front of the car.

NY Plates are still white correct ? MAYBE you could paint the air cooler protective screen the same color of the plate, to maybe help hide the holes.

Good one. I like it. I'd like to see a hinged plate setup too. Stand it off the cooler opening enough that it could lean back and allow air to the cooler.

Mike,

Mount it to an ordinary plate frame with some 1/4" eye bolts mounted with the eyes in front and a nut in front of the frame and in back of the plate. Put some rubber bumpers on the protruding bolt so it doesn't scratch the bumper. Then hook it to the lip of the cooler opening with some rubber straps at the bottom, and to the inside of the hood with straps over the smile. Removable for the track and permanent enough that it won't get stolen.

You do NOT want to have no front plate as it is a primary offense, why give them a reason to pull you over?

Hi John, Mike the Younger suggested epoxying two stong magnets behind the bumper........and a piece of ferrous metal to the plate. Very strong magnets indeed.

Bill Rudtner just informed me that I've got a broken head stud........bummer.. What mods can I figure out....."while I'm in there."

Thanks to all for the suggestions

Mike, I wouldn't bust your pick on an all -out krazy mod. Just the following:

Euro SC high compression pistons or JE's
ARP rod bolts
Supertec or ARP head studs

That ought to set you back enough bucks that the car is happy and won't go snapping her studs again.

Good luck!

I have the sorter version of the RSR front bumper with the center opening for the oil cooler. I have decided to go with the Stoddard version of the early "S" bumper license mount kit. I plan to mount it on the left side of the cooler opening. My bumper does not have the brake duct openings.

The "kit" is $23 and is shown on the following "S' Registry thread:

NO PLATE. Just like the IROC cars. Seriously, I have a very similar front bumper and I would never even consider running a front plate. It would RUIN the look of the front end, IMO. Maybe the cops are a bit more laid back with regards to front plates here in CA. I have logged 165K in the last 5 years on my work truck with no front plate and never been cited.

John, I just got back from Rutdner's, Bill is going to give me a few options. But I think I am going to go the way you describe above. I'm thinking JE 10.5 compression pistons, a little head massaging ARP rod bolts, rod bearings, 993 head studs as Bill suggested. As you well know it would not take long reaching 20k in engine workand I really do not want to lay out that much right now.

Sergio, I think the bumper would look good with the plate mounted to one side....good idea.

Bryan, I have thought about no front plate as well. Here in NYC ANY sort of infraction is fresh meat for a ticket. I'll probably mount the plate usind suction cups, magnets or double faced tape.

Cheers
