Need help with O2 sensor grommet
I'm in the process of changing out my O2 sensor on my '85 911 and was wondering if there is an easy way to pull the grommet and wire assembly out through the bottom of the engine tin. I have the wires unplugged and would like to just pull it all through the hole and pop in a new one. It's not very flexible any more and not very easy to peel out. I'm going to leave it attached to the cat and install a new one in my premuffler so it can all be quickly reattached.

no big deal, just push the inner edge through with a screw driver, slice it with a razor blade from the od to the id and slip on the new grommet

Thanks, that's kinda what I pictured but just wanted to make sure.

Motion lotion! Put some O-ring lubricant (like dow corning 111) or even vaseline or a dro of oil on there before you push it out. It will help a lot!
Generally, I have seen the replacement O2 sensors come with a new grommet, so it really doesn't even matter what happens to the old one. But don't be shy with the new one either. The grommet is pretty flexible. George |
