MFI Injection Pump Question
I was tuning my engine in preparation for emission testing (ugh!) required by my move to DC. In doing so, it's clear that I need to lean out the pump's part-load setting. I never felt a need to adjust this in the past (pre-rebuild), but when I wnt to do it yesterday, I was stumped by where this adjustment is located. Is it supposed to be behind the hex head screw shown in the pic below? If so, I couldn't find any adjustment behind it. Or, am I barking up the wrong tree? Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Yes, that's where you access the main rack adjustment.
You need a really long and thin flat-blade to adjust it. One click makes a significant change, so don't get greedy. Clockwise is lean, CCW is richer. Do you have the proper tools? Even with the proper adjuster tool, I've had difficulty getting it to engage in the slot. Sometimes having to bend the tool to get a straighter shot in the hole. |
Thanks Tyson! So, does the screw driver need to go way into the pump? I tried a small screwdriver that extended 3"-4" into the pump, but felt nothing on the inside.

It's not 3-4 inches, more like an inch. Once you find the slot, note the index of the end of the tool (your end). This will help you reengage the screw should you decide to go for a 2nd adjustment. Your adjustment will most likely affect the idle speed. You 're entering "The Twilight Zone" when you start with this stuff. Write everything you do down with diagrams and dates.

uh oh! I went straight in much further and didn't find this adjustment.
Thanks guys! |
Jim,
Did Souk help you pick out the Jetta?:) |
Straight in ... you'll find it after a couple inches. In gently 'til it stops, then turn with light pressure. You'll feel it click into the slot.

Well, I'll give it another try. Thanks!
Dennis, that's not funny! ;) |
