My simple project to replace a leaking oil line and replace distributor cap and rotor took a detour yesterday. Rotor was on so tight that when it finally came it pulled out the shaft it is attached to!
![]() ![]() ![]() Yellow arrows are pointing to centrifugal return springs that ended up in the bottom of the housing. Anyway, I pried rotor off on the workbench and sanded the end of the shaft so that new rotor went on a lot easier (still snug, but removable by hand). I had no exploded diagrams of the distributor so I used my intuition. I assume this is how it should go: ![]() Hardest part was trying to get the damn retainer split ring back onto (into) the shaft. Just want to check with more knowlegable people on this: There was a washer and then the split ring circlip under the felt to retain the rotor shaft. Anything I'm missing that might have ended up inside the distributor? Felt was well lubed with oil then dust cap and rotor put back on. Car runs just fine so I assume I'm OK. The oil line replacement took 20 mins... a simple distributor cap and rotor took me 1 1/2 hrs!!! PS: can anyone post an exploded diagram of the 3.2 distributor or direct me to a post with it. My search only turned up older versions. Thanks for listening.

Looks to me like you are on the way to becoming an expert 3.2 distributor type. Nice job getting it back together and working.

Hey Rex, thanks for the link. Looks like KillerDynoSoar had a worse time of it than I did. When the whole shaft came out the first thing I did was to make a mental note of which way the rotor was pointing. I managed to get mine back together without removing whole distributor and my washer and retainer ring were stuck safely under the felt plug. I guess I got all the pieces back together afterall. I think every couple of years I will make a point of removing the rotor to make sure felt is oiled and there's no rust forming. DynoSoar and I are just lucky nothing fell down into the distributor.

Dentist90,
It sounds like you will have this all sorted out before the run to Salmon Arm - I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.
