fuel pump problem??

triying to resurrect a 70' 911 T that has been sitting for 15 years....

fuel pump was stuck, no sound-just got hot. took it apart ... a little mystery oil and it spins freely and when hooked makes noise.

however no fuel is being pumped to the carb(zeniths), i have the fuel line disconected to watch for flow... but nothing.

i have:
-drained and flushed tank (added treated gas and drained again.. no visable rust)
-changed all lines going to the pump from the tank
-blown compressed air through line that runs from pump, the hard line that goes into undercarrrage, to the hard line in the engine compartment that feeds the carbs. air comes out fine.
- i only have one battery hooked up.. but pump is pulling 12 amps.

do i need to somehow prime the pump after reinstalling it??
is it possible that the old pump, while "working" is not strong enough to pump fuel?

thanks for any insight.

TR-

I went through some of this on my 71, but ended up replacing the pump with an aftermarket unit.
There should be a kind of tower kind of thing sticking up on it that has a crimped on aluminum cap on it. There is a check-valve in there that you can access by removing that cap. Mine was stuck. If it gets stuck, it can push incoming fuel back through the return instead of to the carbs.

Might check that-
