Oil cooler lines

car - 87 carerra.
Problem.. some idiot previous owner got the tires changed at local tire store. When they jacked the car, they compressed the oil line to the oil cooler (lower line) to approx 1/2 inch (outside dimension). The line is now oval. The question is.... how much volume flows through these lines and is this a concern, or possible even an Urgent matter.. I have no way of knowing how long ago this was done.

It only REALLY matters if the enigine gets hot. Eventually you might want to rmove the line and use a rubber mallet to GENTLY bring it back to shape.

Hadthe same problem on my 78Sc., The line was pinched on 2 spots clearly a jack mark. Removed the line (Itwas pinched about 1/3) took it too a hose shop to see if they could cut a piece and weld into it it .the lines are avery brittle brass alloy and cant be welded they also tried to hammer the kink out even using heat didn't work either because the lines are too brittle. I ran water through my line and didn't see a restriction of flow to warrant 350.00 for a new line

I agree with Jryerson, It would take a lot of deformation to restrict flow. However, I disagree with mikez, the cooler is on the pressure side of the oil pump, and therefore a flow restiction could cause serious problems before overheating was ever noticed. People also run into this problem when installing aftermarket oil coolers with inadequate flow for a Porsche motor.

A pinched oil line will restrict oil flow and increase oil pressure in that line which can eventually lead to oil pump failure. Also, this line is used under normal operating conditions (i.e. when your oil temp level is midway)

My oil line was completly closed and I took it in to a Porsche restoration shop which was able take it out with no problem. Charged me $40.
