Good - cheap - fast cad plater

Hye, I just had alot of stuff on my car cad plated. Suspension, two bags of hardware and other brackets and things.
Problem is the guy wanted to charge me $800. Yes, you read that right, $800 to media blast and cad plate the suspension bits from a 911 including a-arms and crossmember but no trailing arms or spring plates. And he took 4 weeks to do it.

I still need some things done, spring plates, asst small pieces.

Does anyone know of a cheap place I can send my stuff to? Or drive it to in orlando?

THanks!

Michael

You can buy a cad kit and do it yourself. Several places offer different kits, but I've not tried them so I don't know if they work.

FIRST, use your YellowPages to check out other platers. Tell 'em what you have, what you want, what it weighs. If no cheaper source is found I'd look at Eastwood.com or JC Whitney.

I dont know if its the same but I just got my stuff gold zinc plated.
On the phone price $200-250....In person after seeing stuff $900, same deal as you he says it all has to be blasted. And that was after telling him I could blast everything.

Manager walks by I ask him how much...... he says if I take out all parts with paint
he would do it all for $250. I was happy

Moral of the story.....Parts can be pretty damn rusty but not painted and the platers should be able to do you a good deal.

I called a bunch of people when looking

I don't know what Florida's environmental fees are, but in North Texas, the cad plating costs - for Mil-Spec Cad plating are:
$ .75/Lb with a $ 50.00 minimum; Bake 3 hours - add $ .40/lb with a $ 20.00 minimum. For high hardness (above Rc50) best do a 23 hour bake: add $ .50/lb with a $ 60.00 minimum.

Just about all fasteners can be mixed together to save minimum lot charges - recognizing that the plating thickness will vary by item. Most Porsche clamps, brackets, clips, etc can also be mixed together - even with the fasteners. Again, plating thickness will vary. All of that is barrel plating...some larger items must be rack plated and those would be seperate minimum and pound plating charges.

If you want a No. Texas plater, I can post a company with name and address than is pretty reliable and can be shipped to.

Regards,
Jim

Cad plating will live longer in corrosive environments if that is the requirement. That said, there are fewer places using this process because of stiff environmental regs.

Yellow zinc plating is not quite as good, but you can specify a thicker coating for more protection. In addition, there are more places that will offer this process.

In So. Cal, some places charge $50 minimum for about 10 lbs. of barrel-processed parts. If you clean the parts first (degrease, strip paint, etc.), the parts come out looking better, but that depends on the plater.
