Front rubber brake line nut size?

Hi guys,

I'm going to be renewing my front rubber brake lines very soon at the same time as rebuilding my front calipers, but I'm not sure what size flare spanner to buy to remove the rubber lines. I've done a search and I can see 11mm suggested, as well as 14mm and 17mm - do any of you chaps know which it is? I would have a look under my car but I'm out of the country at the moment, but want to order the correct spanner for when I return.

Its an '84 Carrera, by the way.

Thanks in advance.

personally I would buy a set of them. You can never go wrong with a flare nut wrench set.

Yeah, I guess you're right - its just that they're pretty expensive, so I was thinking I would slowly build up a set as buy them one by one. It probably cost me more in the long run though...

HI you will require a 11 mm/ 7/16th pipe spanner, 14 mm open-end/combo, and poss a 17 mm open-end/combo, and to do the job a bit of 21in x 2" x 2" wood to push the brake pedal and jam the pedal down a bit before you brake into the brake circuit to change the pipes, as not to loose the fluid out of the pipes/cylinder

Thanks Mike - that's very helpful. Given that it looks like I'll need 3 sizes I'll order myself a flare nut wrench set as previously suggested.

Thanks for the tip about the wood. I'll nip by B&Q if I can't find a bit lying round my shed somewhere!
