Use MFI from a 2.4 on a 2.7
I have CIS on my 2.7 at the moment can I replace this with a MFI set up from a 2.4.
Whats involved in converting the MFI to suit a 2.7 motor? (I am planning on using it in my rebuild GE60 cams JE 90mm pistons etc..) |
I've heard it can run w/ just a rack adjustment, but having the pump recalibrated isn't a bad idea. You will also need a camshaft w/ the MFI drive belt gear on the end, and you will need heads that accept the MFI injectors.
Carbs are obviously an easier swap. |
The current configuration is CIS 2.7
I have the cams 60's, I purchased of Cam grinder, I can put the pully on the end ok |
Lots of wiring differences. Fuel pump difference. Fuel console required for the filter and if you want cold start squirters. Sheet metal is different on left side.

what about the heads can CIS heads take MFI?? Is it a major pain in the but to go to MFI from CIS?
|
from memory, you will need to weld up the CSI injector recesses on the CIS heads and drill and tap the holes for the MFI injectors - probably easier to buy some MFI heads...
|
No - you'll need to have the heads machined for the MFI injectors. If you want to go with MFI and GE60 cams, this is pointless (IMHO) without changing out the pistons as well. See above also, there are other "death of 1,000 cuts" differences in the conversion. Punch the back cover out of your left cam carrier, new tin on left side, drill left cam, fuel filter console, new fuel pump (can NOT use existing CIS fuel filter or fuel pump), etc. etc.
I'd expand the scope to do a high-compression RS engine - otherwise the cost/benefit isn't there. |
Yeah I'm putting in JE 90mm pistons as well

What about the stack/throttle size?? Would any version (T, E, S) work? (I'm thinking S would be the way to go)
