installing the muffler
hi all. i bolted on my stock muffler and i can slip a feeler guage in-between the gasket and muffler flange easily. the headers are thick-flange stainless. is the muffler flange flexing that much? any solutions?

Are you using the correct gasket in there?
Is the bottom tight? - maybe the band clamps will solve the problem if they aren't on already. Check the mating surfaces for sloppy weld beads etc. that might interfere w/ the fit. |
i have the thick gaskets with the copper on both sides. the bottom is about the same as the top, the bolts are tight. i have not installed the straps yet but i dont think i want to rely on them to create a seal. the surface is a little cruddy but i think if the surface was better the flange ears would still be bending. is it possible the thin old style copper gaskets would be better?

something is wrong
you may have to take it apart and see why the bolts don't drw the flanges together. thin gaskets should just be worse... you're sure the gage is going all the way down - into the tube ? |
