I want to lower my car the rear

Ok here is a post I posted on DDK in the UK so it will explain all but I have just done some searching and I found a few comments of don't bother etc etc and get a shop to do it... yeah right I have done every thing else..

OK so what I have read is that the two volts 5 and 7 in the picture below are the camber settings and this is where the fun begins.

Now I need to take out the flat bar off any way because there is a small hole I need to weld up behind it which I bet will turn in to a big hole when I finish.. but I digress from my welding..

So to get this flat bar off I need to undo all the bolts EG 4 of them and then I can wiggle the flat bar off.. I have spray painted and scratched around the two area's so I stand a chance of it all going back to where I took it off from..

BUT

I want to lower the rear end abit ..front as we know is very easy..

I want to run 165 15's on steels so I just want to lower the rear little..

So when I get the flat bar off ( arm ) then I will see a set of splines right?

in order to lower the car how many splines and which way do I go.. I am working on the Pass side USA car..
anti clock wise or clock wise..

I don't have Dwanes book but I will buy when I see it

let me know cheers

Mark

Post I put on DDK with Picture!!!!

I am looking to lower the rear of the 65 and I need to get the arm off any way as there is a small bit of a hole I want to repair as well. So I am thinking what I did on the 69 and I am abit lost..

There are two bolts ( like no 6 ) 6 in the picture shows ony one.. These bolt to the main banarna arm..

Then there are the two others that change the chamber etc etc no 5 and no 7

So inorder to lower the car I have to take this arm ( flat bar ) out and then put back on a spline or so out to lower the car..?
it is a 65 car
and how many slines and which way round do I go to lower it clock wise or anti clock wise..?

well I have had it all off one the one side and I made up and cut out the old rusty bit of metal and welded in a new shape I made so the outer torsion area is a nice and soild again .. just waiting for the dripping wax oil to stop coming out then I can plug it...

So I put back the spring plate.. now as much as I tried to get this out with out the torsion bar moving guess what it all came out..

So I had marked where it was before i took it all out so I have moved the spring plate.. up one spline.. it looks a mighty big leep compared to the other side am I in the right ball park as far as what I am doing..

Using only one "tooth" of the spline will make too much of a change. The bars have something like 44 splines on one end and 40 on the other...so that you move one end in "one" direction and the other end in the "other" direction...to get you a smaller "net" effect.

You really need to look at either the Tech section of Pelican...where this is descrribed in some detail..or do a further search on this board's archives...

Yeah I bolted it all back togeather and it's looking too much

But that's not too much probs as I can undo it all..

I have an angle thing now.. So I will play with that..

Any how the point is I pulled out the spring plate and the torsion bar came out the centre of the car so I had marked it as I looked it was a BIT move so I guess I need to take off my spring plate and move that back one to lessen the affect

I am getting the idea now no probs will try and let you know how I get on I have tried to look for Tec bits but have come across alot of other stuff but that..

May go on hold any how cos I just got a ticket for Le Mans Classic in France so all hands on Deck to get my other 12 out and ready for the trip..

As a basic guide, look here --> http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_torsion_bars/911_torsion_bars.htm

for further refinement on how to calculate the proper rear spring angle...to get a specific ride height with a specific torsion bar size....see the angle calculator I worked up that Thom Fitzpatrick ( widebody911) redid as a plug-n-jug software package--> http://www.rennlight.com/cgi-bin/spring.cgi

Wil is right on with this.
Mark: You'll need to understand the principle of the 40/44 splines on the torsion bars, after that, it's easier.
Do a search.
