930 Performance Improvements

I want to enhance the performance of my 1986 930. What performance enhancements should I consider and are there any ill effects. Does a K&N filter help? What about an Autothority chip? New exhaust system? Give me your ideas/experience. Thanks.

Hi, I have a 1985 930 which has many enhancements. There is no chip for this car.
I had the entire engine pulled out. The heads were ported & polished including the intakes. Then went with SC sport cams. Changes the factory studs to raceware. Upgraded the turbo to a kkk29s, B&B headers and muffler, zucs powerflow air box, Koklen intercooler & swaybars,962 wastegate, hi-perf. clutch, changed the gearing for quicker accel, short shift kit,the car sits very low now. Also I had the pistons cut and ni-resist rings installed which raised my compression to 7:50:1 from 7:00:1.
This car really moves now.

I did several of the things Joseph did when we have to have the engine pulled and a top end job done. But, before the engine pull, I installed a Power Haus long neck intercooler to eliminate the popoff valve, HKS boost controller as it is more accurate and adjustable than just the stock pressure sensor system and switched to a B&B exhaust/muffler. It breaths much better with the B&B system, saves rear end weight and sounds nice too. I do have to put the cat and stock muffler on every 2 years. During the overhaul, I had the SC cams and head work done, but did not raise the compression ratio. I cut a stock air box so that I could get into the rear shock adjusters and use a K&N filter, instead of the Zuzc power box filter since it you can't get to the air-fuel adjuster with it installed (at least on the one I saw). I left the gearing stock as we drive it mostly on the street. I also use 20-50 Red-line synthetic oil. Good luck.
