front pan replacement
 

I just purchased a '72 911T with the understanding that it needs a new front suspension pan. Any advice or potential pitfalls I should be aware of? I have access to a complete fabrication facility, and have heard that the job is fairly straightforward. However, I'd like some feedback from someone who has actually done the job themselves, or had it done, before I start work. Ny advice would be appreciated.

Just finished replacing mine last winter. A friend who is good at mig welding did most of the work. I used a comercial replacement pan that turned out to be a very good replacement and fit like a glove.

I cut out the old pan at the longitudinal seam, leaving a little extra on the rear of the pan. To help align the pan, I bolted on the front suspension before I made the final cuts in the existing pan.

I was pretty happy with the results. You can tell a new pan was welded in, but you have to look for it.
