tranny problems

I have a tranny from a '70-'71 911, 5 speed that I thought was rebuild and started to clean it up before I put it in the car. I opened the drain plug to find what looks like bearing parts attached to the magnet of the plug. There was no oil in the tranny. I started ripping the unit but could not get the diff. out and the Haynes manual is not much help. It says something about putting two bolts to stop one side rotating while you remove the expansion bolt????.
I'm just thinking now, what if the parts were picked up when the oil was removed and the plug was left lying in other parts. The pieces I found were about 1mm in Diameter and about 3 - 4mm long. Is there a roller bearing in the tranny that these could be from??.
any help would be great
thanks

Those pieces are most likely pieces of the synchros as they can chip easily, especially the first and second gear ones. I don't think they'd be pieces of the bearings - those things are tough! Hope that helps a bit.
