Passenger Side Wipers
 

I have the wipers parked on the passenger side of my car. Did the job from the trunk vice through the dash. Daily driver in NC (have you looked at the East Coast weather lately?). No issues with rain performance and I feel it provides a less cluttered view for the driver in their parked position.


BTW,
Can anyone give me a point out to some really cool double or triple blade wipers? Even better if they have some sort of wing on them to hold them down when I get going really fast in the rain:p

We call it "Rain-X"

Everybody should take a look at the location of who is posting what -- reversal, also known as "69ing the wipers," is fvored by those in dry areas, like SoCal.

It is disfavored by those in the Northeast and the PNW -- places where it is wet, for the reasons that john Cramer notes.

You're right. Parking the wipers on the right makes it look ricey. Wow, the purists don't accept change lightly. BTW, the H4s are not stock for this year either, nor are the SC rockers.

On a RHD car, they park in front of the driver too. Like I said, the Factory did it for a reason.

The parking position was on the driver's side on '64's before being moved to the passenger side in '65, where it remained until '69.

Only on Pelican would there be two pages of discussion on where to park the wipers.

The only thing missing are gratuitous pictures of my car -- it originally came with a one-of-a-kind both-way wiper rest (?!).

But that was in Indiana, where I guess it probably rained more. ;)

some people put r-type tailights on even though they actually perform worse in sunlight... some put euro blinkers while euro cars get them shaved... either way, it's all to look different and customized to your own taste.

we're all here to make our cars look/run better and to do some amount of customization to them. some of those changes will be internal (re-routing oil lines, another cooler etc.) and some will be external.

if you've moved your wipers to change "the look" that's fine. if you moved them just b/c you could, great. we all have our preferences. but it's just hard to believe that they completely distracted you from driving or even obscured your vision. :rolleyes: ......unless you're 5ft tall... :p


rhd drive cars had them on the same side as the driver's seat.

Now, biologists often analyze things like this based on climate -- temperature, rainfall etc. -- for animals or plants.

Here is my offer: When you post your preference whether it is straight or 69'd -- just also post the # of rainy days per year at your location - data you can get from the NWS.

When there is a compilation that is large enough that it might be statistically valid, I will do an analysis of it and report back. Now, that is better than a free case of beer, isn't it? OK - it's better than a free case of rice water,. at least.

I avoid wrenching anything except my back, if I'm not careful, and my mechanic says 2-3 hr.s labor - I'm admitedly a mehanical maladroit who envies you guys who turn your own wrenches. I qualify for a graduate degree in crossthreading and just the thought of what I'd screw up horrifies me, so I guess they'll stay parked where they are unless somebody offers to stand over me while I do it (with their borrowed tools!). It's a shame, 'cause it never rains in sunny southern California.

Sure would be nice to have a less obstructed glance, every now & then, down at those beautiful brenders, uh freasts, FENDERS, that is!

So I decided to do a classy graphic on the hood to liven up the somewhat bland Porsche coupe body style. Cost me zilch - I have a friend in AZ who paints aircraft w/Imron paint, practically indestructible. I'll post a picture - looks great!

I think I remember reading that in the past wipers were parked on either side, but at some point they started just parking them on one side.

I used my 911 daily in Houston. We get lots of rain in Houston, it's not Seattle, but we get plenty of rain. I never had a problem with rain with the wipers on the right.

Actually, I think the spot directly in the line of sight when they are parked on the left is actually not due to the blade not touching correctly, but has to do with the way the wiper changes the air flow at that point. Either way, I definitely noticed a change for the better with them on the right. It's not something that you really notice when looking at a car since you still have two wipers and they still park in the same position just on the opposite side. Like I said, not really rice unless you do something really out of the ordinary.

Don't think it is ricey.

I reversed mine a few years ago on my '76 and enjoy the clearer vision.

Yes, I am "vertically challenged" .... but I really wanted to do it b/c it was "tres ghey" :D

I guess I shouldn't have said anything. :D In my mind, rice = mods made for looks not function. For example, my heavy as millstones Ruf wheels fall into that category. If "ricer" mods make you happy, enjoy them. Seriously, life is too short.
I do find amusing some of the comments that went like this: "Our mods aren't like the ricers 'cause ricers have oversized round tailpipes while ours our oval."

What John Walker said - be careful if you reverse them! A simple error would be to put them back on the shaft 180 reversed and end up gouging semi-circles in your hood, when to your horror, they go the wrong way! I have not done this, but I have seen the damage. I imagine it would be a long time passing before you would see the humor in it.
