911 windshield leaks
it rained like cats and dogs today in NC, and I found poodles in my door pockets (now I know why they get so damaged). My question: how do I stop these leaks?! ('82 SC)

Tim, poodles in your door pockets is terrible... my wife loves poodles. At any rate, if the car is a coupe, check all of the seals around the door. The upper seal might have gone. If the windshield seal has gone, chances are, you would have a very wet floor and depending on where the leak is on the windshield... other areas would be wet, but not necessarily the door pockets. Targas have that problem because the seal that meets the upper window goes bad. You shouldn't have a very bad time locating the problem, but do fix it quickly. If, infact,it is the windshield, you could end up with electrical problems due to moisture going past the bottom of the glass and behind the dash. I had this exact problem in my coupe and I blew out the blower motor.

I replaced all the seals on our 1974 914 and there was still a slight leak. To find it I sat in the car, had my wife spray it with the hose and looked with a flashlight and found there was a very small gap at the front corner where the top seal, side window came together. I used a couple of thin layers of black sealer and built up the seal and no more leaks.

I agree with the others. Make sure that you identify exactly where the leak is coming from. While it is possible that the actual windshield seal is leaking, I'd have to say that it is not likely. The windshield seal on SCs is pretty solid. The seal alone is good enough to stop water, but it is ALSO glued in. So, unless someone really put it in wrong, your car is most likely leaking from somewhere else.
