Upgrading the 4 speed in a 1986 911 Turbo

I Have a 1986 911 Turbo with the standard 4 speed gearbox, its not the greatest gear shifting experience, and as for the clutch, well enough said......!
I’ve heard of various conversions, such as a five speed, with hydraulic clutch..
So has anyone solved this problem and how ?
Appreciate any input, please send any info to : the.traveller@ibm.net
thanks, Paul

I was going to convert our 1987 Turbo so it would be more competative at autocrosses, etc, but went out and bought a 914 instead. I was going to have Patrick Motorsports in Phoenix AZ do it and the cost is roughly $7500 with a limited slip and they do all the work. Takes them three to four days. Their web site is: http://www.patrickmotorsports.com/
One down side is higher RPM for the same speed unless you go with custom gear sets, etc.

I Did speak to Powerhaus in AZ about the gearbox, and it was coming in at about the same price !! Do you know if it is the same box they put in the '89 does that one have a hydrolic clutch. Or is it the one they put in the C2s ?? I drove one of them the other week, a turbo (Thanks Foreign Cars Italia) and it was quite impressive........

The only conversion I have seen in person had a hydralic clutch setup and made pedal pressure much less. The transmission is a G50 5 speed that is machined to fit in the shorter space for mounting. Also worth noting, the limited slip from a 4 speed transmission will not work so you have to buy one of those too.

Thanks John, I drove a '91 C2 Turbo last week, which of course had a 5 speed, if I have the conversion, will that be what I will get ?
Thanks for the limited slip info also, I wasn't sure, good to know......
