Steering rack rebuild / Where to find this part.
I was wondering if there are any Pelicans in the Calgary/403 area able to assist with the removal and diagnosis of a failed steering rack or linkage.
I suspect part 8 or 9, as referenced below may be the root cause of the slipping as percieved at the steering wheel under steering wheel load. The rack coupler looks like it's aging but not a mandatory replace at this time. Steering Rack "Rebuild" Procedure The rack is/was working beautifully until it 'let go'. No prior signs of play anywhere. This only occurs under loading at the steering wheel. I have an empty smugglers box and everything in the way removed. Things are looking good and moving in unison from top side of rack coupler to wheel itself. ** Request for assistance is mainly to ensure orientation markings are reasonable where necessary before removal. I'd prefer to not tow in a mess but something that can be aligned. Preferred shop locally is booking well beyond my next competitve event, parts availability cutting it too close so I'm determined to start the rebuild to pass the time. Armed with the rack rebuild info already found online and regardless of local Pelicans. I'll start documenting this rack rebuild experience tonight. -Ivan '86 911 Carrera ROW. Part 9 is indeed stripped. Is it possible to get this part? I can't find it in PET listings.
The pinion appears to be good.
