Heater blower problem
 

Hi guys.
ive got a 1989 3.2 carrera (UK car) and i have a small problem which i hope u can help me with.
Every time i start my car the heater comes on and stays on, this happens even though the dial in the middle of the seats is off, if i turn the dial up to 7 or 8 then the heat increases if i switch to off it stays on but not as high...
im looking for a quick fix really, is there a fuse which i can just disconnect for this? ( i still want the cold air to blow though).?

I don't know about an '89 (probably similar) but on my '83, I had to clean up and open two large valves near each of the rear shocks. Road dirt, etc. had come together to prevent them from closing properly. When closed, the engine heat is sent harmlessly to the ground - otherwise it will come forward to the dash.

There are a bunch of threads on this - some with pics. Also on Rennlist. They're not hard to find - just follow the big hoses coming off the engine blower.

Like Mitch said . . . your heat exchanger valves are probably rusted closed. Hit them with a penetrating oil.

It sounds like the engine compartment controller is giving you grief. The is alot of information on how this thing functions in the attached thread. A quick fix/test would be to just remove the controller from its socket.

There is also a micro switch below the red levers(between the seats) and if they are not all the way down or closing the micro switch then the heater will blow.

I have found the problem, its the heat valves rusted closed, i have hit them with penetration oil and managed to get them to open but id like to get new ones, can anyone tell me the part number as i cant find it on here when i search, id also like the part number for the control cable if possible. Phil...he has "auto heat" with a 9 position dial...no red levers.....

As an aside....I posted before if there is an "elegant" way to dump waste heat far away...and not so close to the shocks/ brakes/ front of engine ?

Any way a hose can be attached to the outlet....and snake it back out or toward the bottom of the car? I think the factory really missed the boat on this one !!
