Bastardizing a 911 muffler
 

OK guys, here's a challenge for you: I've got a '66 912 I've had for 34 years now. 480K miles on it, been hit everywhere over the years, and now being properly restored, old rust holes patched etc etc. I have had a fantastic 2.2 Liter T4 motor in it for 4 years now, along with S suspension, it's a gas to drive, about the same power to weight ratio as an early S (it's around 200 lbs lighter!) This car at full tilt is a blast!

Was looking at the newest incredible RS restoration thread this morning and saw that huge 911 muffler. It brought up an idea: what if somebody welded Type 4 exhaust flanges to that beast, would it flow well?

Any ideas? Anyone ever tried this? There are a lot of really expensive major spaghetti headers for the T4 installation, but I've never seen anyone adapt a 911 muffler. Might be a reasonably priced alternative. Suggestions much appreciated!

If you can Bastardize this style of 911 muffler ( yes the muffler is from a 912) tell me I want this look for my 912e

I believe the '76-only 912E muffler is exacly what you are thinking about ... a two-in 911-type muffler with T4 flanges on the two inlets! As are the 914 mufflers, IIRC ...

912e exhaust and type 4 exhaust that can be used if you update your 912 engine to type 4 power (I hear the above are available in stainless, but don’t quote on me that since its a joke how the company is being)

I have sold a couple of sub asembly mufflers(with no inlets welded on) for a some of my customers doing the same thing as you
