early wheel bearing removal

I'm working on my new '66 911 that's been dormant for the last 6 or so years. My first project was the brakes, and I thought since I was in there I would replace/repack the bearings. The fronts were easy. The car only has 37000 miles and the bearings appeared to be in good shape so I repacked and installed. I was going to start on the rear, but the information I've found all seems to be for '74 or so and newer. Some posts indicate early 911's might be different? If anyone has some insight on removing the rear bearings out of a '66 I would truly appreciate their help. Is the process the same, different, easier....

thanks,

Jay Carrauthers

Jay,

No information will be released until digital photos are posted.

Just kidding, the procedure is similar although I haven't done it myself. Because the trailing arm is fabricated steel vs. aluminum there may be less risk of gouging it when reinstalling. In this regard, the procedure is most similar to that for the LWB cars with the steel arms.

What # is your '66? Welcome to the forum, there are a bunch of us SWB'ers on here.

Sorry no pic. I'm at work and I can't do it here. Anyway, I posted a pic on my last post about the master cylinder. Search carrooth and you'll find it.

Thanks for the Reply

Jay

Hello there.

The SWB set up is totally differnet from the cassette type bearing in the LWB cars..and six times the cost!

It consist af two separtate bearings on the stub axle.

You really must get the correct Factory manual, or similar to do this right.

Kind regards
David
