My 2 cars will be for sale next spring

That is not a joke. The orange Carrera 3.0 and the kiln red 1983 Turbo will be for sale next spring.

Why next spring? because I won't be home before Christmas, and I want a complete PPI done with a compression and leakdown on each.

Why tell now? because it helps if people know beforehand, in case someone needs planning.

Prices? depends on the general value for these cars next spring, but they will not be cheap examples of the breed. Those who know my cars know the work that went into them and their condition.

Oh yes, there is a *long* list of unobtainium spares with them.

If it does not belong here, moderator please move to wherever.
Last thing, both cars are in Switzerland.

Both are super beautiful cars. I hope they go to someone who will appreciate & take care of them like you have.

It's a good thing they're so far away. I'd have some explaining to do if I scooped up two more Porsches.

The reasons are multiple.
Changes in my professional life, in my personal life.
Changes that I feel have happened in the Porsche community (moreso in the early 911 community).
Changes in the price of things, like fuel at 6$ a gallon.
Changes in the way speed is considered and repressed.

I will not get out of Porsches, my Porsche lounge will always be here, but the next one (which won't be too far after these) will be more modern, nicer, and even if driven less, will be no farther from the edge as these two have been for now 10 years.

And, seeing the remarks above, you gentlemen have about 9 months to devise evil plans. A container is about 3K from here to you...

I sure wish they go to real enthusiasts who will preserve them as they are because they represent in my eyes 2 forms of the purest way of enjoying these cars: one all original, the other lightened and modded with only factory parts.

George:

..... mark my words , from someone who is ( likely) chronologically older than you..and has faced numerous, and sometimes rather daunting and soul-searching questions on his own life's path.....relative to *continuing* Porsche ownership.....

....keep *one* .... doesn't matter which........

I say this especially after reading your "thoughts" above.......

Hello and stunning Porches...

As a soon to be (hopefully this week ) newcomer to early 911 ownership, I am interested in some thoughts regarding the change in attitude regarding Porsche ownership, particularly early 911's' comments. If you'd rather not expand on them, that's cool.. Just wondering and interested.

Good luck with your pending sales and future endeavors.

Eric

Eric, it's a clique, a cult. Everyone has an opinion on the subject (the cars) and what to do with them. Kinda makes you want to sometimes step away for awhile if you've been around it. I did. I'd rather have a "doesn't matter" type of 911. If I want to cut it up and bastardize it, then I do that w/o worrying about the legacy, the value, the opinons.

The "early" cars, to '73, are lighter and spontaneous. The feel of the brake pedal and the steering is what these guys refer to as "raw." The generally narrower body and tires are somewhat less forgiving of mistakes to some drivers, not all. All 911's can bite you, just as all cars can, but in their own way.

Like I said, it's a cult. There's even a Gruppe or two.

I've read about Geo's cars and his tours. That was on my long list of things to do. Meaning I probably would have never actually gotten around to doing it, just fantacising. Great cars.

Hmmm, I'm guessing that after owning two such amazing examples of 911/930 cars, you will be kicking yourself for selling both. Maybe sell one, then pause for a bit. Take your time, those cars look amazing. Anything else will be much less rewarding to drive.

George,

What are you doing that is keeping you out and away from home that long? I have been doing two months on/one off rotation for almost a year and it really hurts being away from home that long, so know what you mean.

Does this have anything to do with the 'old timer' laws there? I remember asking some Swiss friends about older car ownership and they explained it was rather difficult.

Indeed. I have a 1967 912. When most porsche guys find out it's subaru powered, I kinda get snubbed, they just have to get over it. I hang out with hot rodders and the "understanding" element. You just have to find the group you want to hang out with. I didn't build the car for recognition or to be popular, or to have everyone see it my way. I did it because that's what I wanted, and that's the most important part. it sounds selfish, but I also did it in the way that can be returned, so i'm thinking of the other guy too.

Several of the poo pooers have seen it/ridden in it, and usually I hear the following: 1. Man, this makes me embarrased my 912 is so much slower. 2. Dang, this thing is pretty cool.

Eric, do what you want with your car. if you want to worry about legacy, value, and opinions, great! just keep an open mind to those who don't, and we'll all have lots of fun.
