Steve Wong did it again

Just installed a Steve Wong chip this week in my '85 coupe and wow what a difference. As I was driving down my street I shifted into second expecting that little lag that comes when you engage 2nd and was shocked at how the car immediately leaped ahead. I had read all the reviews but this took me totally off guard. I took the car out on some country roads (we've got plenty of them here in South Carolina) and had a great time exploring the car's capabilities at least until the local sheriff took more than a passing interest. Once he pulled up next to me and saw that this 911 was driven by a baldheaded guy with a gray beard he just waved and went along his was. Guess he didn't mind me upsetting a few cattle. Thanks Steve Wong for my new car. Now get back to work making an even better one.

heck yeah, it's a great upgrade. steve really does have a great porduct. im about to add an exhaust to my chipped car. enjoy it cause you eventually get used to the difference but the good things is the car is so much more drivable and liveable.

congrats.

Just recently put a Wong chip in my 84. Together with a Fabspeed cat bypass and max flo sport exhaust The May FSR DE at VIR was an absolute blast!!!!!!!!!!! Definately a must do mod.

YEP......my experience is similar to yours with the SW chip.

And as a extra added bonus my gas mileage increased, I now get 22+ around town , almost 27 on the hiway. Saturday took a little ride on the Blue ridge Parkway (mostly 3rd gear) and returned home on I40 and I26 and got 24 mpg.

Never thought about getting used to it but I guess that's true about most things. Maybe once a year we should put the old chip back in so that we can appreciate how good life has become.

I am sooo happy with my SW chip. Definitely the right choice!

Plecostomus 07-03-2006 07:33 AM

Can you do this to an old SC? Sorry if this is a silly question!

efhughes3 07-03-2006 07:49 AM

Nope, in '84 Porsche went to the DME ignition which can be modded with a chip re-map.

Man, you're killin' me Jim! This another thing I *really* want to buy for my Carrera. I truly want a ride in yours. I have to go out of town on business, so I won't get to drive mine for nearly a month! It looks like I won't get to do anything to her until August now...

Hope to see you guys in a month or so...SmileWavy

Later,
Mike

LOLs guys! Thanks for the plug :) :)

I was very sceptical but Steve has a great return policy, so I thought I'd give it a chance.

I've had my SW chip for over a year now...do the cat bypass and sport muffler too. The difference is incredible. Another plug for 911 Chips. You can buy them here through Pelican:

I have an 88 3.2 with Steve Wong chip and Fabspeed bypass pipe. Both were installed at the same time. Wow! what a difference it made. The car pulls much stronger from bottom end all the way up the RPM range. Thanks, Steve & Fabspeed for great products. I,m thinking about installing a sports muffler in the future. Any suggestions on type/brand?

DeutschMark 07-03-2006 09:54 AM

I took the plunge a month ago. The car has been transformed.

You can't go wrong with Steve Wong!!!

Either a Fabspeed dual out that can be changed to a single out if you don't like the sound or an M&K muffler. That's what my search boiled down to. I went with the Fabspeed because I wanted the flexibility of changing tips.

Uuuuh, a month of not driving the Carrera? You might need some kind of half-way house or step down clinic. This is not the kind of thing you can go cold turkey on.
See you when you get back.

Plecostomus 07-03-2006 10:16 AM

Thanks ED!

livi 07-03-2006 10:18 AM

We need some modulation here - where is Loren ? ;)

TCB 07-03-2006 10:28 AM

My 84 3.2 has 127,000 mi on it. Uses no oil, doesn't leak (now). I don't track the car, but I'm pretty aggessive on the street. Does the SW chip put extra stress on the engine? I'm beginning to think as I read, that it might actually make it easier on the engine than the factory chip.

drl911 07-03-2006 10:38 AM

My SW chip is due in the mail any day.... I can't wait to make the exchange and go for a drive!

I'm not sure I understand the claim of more performance AND better fuel economy?

Is the claim that the factory chip does not deliver fuel at the lambda ratio? Or rather that the factory advance curve is too conservative?
