SoCal Pelicans: The "Welcome to SoCal now GO HOME" BBQ for Thrown Hammer & Family

EDIT: BBQ is Saturday, July 1st from 3:00 p.m. to ???

8 Via Indomado
Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688
PM for phone number

Please rsvp for number of guests & note what you will bring (one of the following): hor'deurves, side dish or dessert

http://www.nostatic.com/wiki/index.php/Thrown_Hammer_Party

Many of you know that Shawn French, aka "Thrown Hammer" recently moved from the end of the earth (otherwise known as Indiana) to the land of milk and honey that is Southern California. Just what we needed, more "immigrants"

Unfortunately, a week after Shawn uprooted his family, drove across country in near record time and began to settle into his newly rented house, his company did an about face and decided that Indiana isn't so bad after all and pulled the plug on the project.

So...Shawn is in temporary limbo but it looks like it's just a matter of time before he has to pack everything up again and head back across the country. His SC has some issues that need to be taken care of first so Paul (PKASSO) has generously offered the use of this shop, tools & supplies to get the SC up and running this weekend.

But...a BBQ at an auto garage in an industrial complex doesn't exactly enthrall the women and children, so we've put our heads together and decided to do a "social" BBQ hosted at my house a week later, either July 1st or 2nd. Wives, SO's and children are welcome and encouraged to attend.

We can BBQ a variety of different things. How about Wild King Salmon caught by yours truly?

A wise old man once told me that Filet Mignon was pretty tasty:

I can also BBQ German Weisswurst & Bratwurst and my wife makes some tasty homemade Sauerkraut. Chicken is also a no-brainer along with hot dogs/hamburgers for the kids. There would be something for everybody.

The grill & bar:

This will be a fun time to relax and just hang out with a beer in one hand, glass of wine in the other and talking Porsche's (or whatever else comes to mind). For the Porsche content in this post:

My wife and I will supply the meat/poultry/fish (the number of people will determine what we'll do for the main course) and drinks but it would be cool if guests could bring a side dish or dessert to share and make it a potluck type party. And hey, if you have something that you want to grill, no problem, bring it along and we'll add it to the mix.

Shawn's family and mine are right now both available on July 1st (Saturday) or July 2nd (Sunday) so we decided to leave the date open for now and see what is the best date for interested people.

Once we do firm up a date, it would be appreciated if those that would like to come RSVP (either responding on this thread or PM) so we can get an accurate headcount for food & drinks.

My address is:

8 Via Indomado
Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688

You can PM me if you need my home and/or cell number. I would set the time between 3-4 pm to whenver we run out of beer.

It would be nice to have a good turnout (not just from the OC guys) but Pelicans from down south, up north and due east. The more the merrier!

Put a name to a face and meet Shawn, his wife Becky and their two kids along with other Pelicanites you correspond with on this BBS but really have no idea who they are.

Ralph

P.S. - If you can also post the date (either Sat. 07/01 or Sun. 07/02) that works best for you it would be helpful.

Ralph, count me in for either day. However, if its the 2nd, I will have to bring along a birthday cake because I will be turning another year older.

Sounds interesting... My car is going to have its engine and tranny out towards the end of July for a few weeks... Might make for a nice last drive for me. I will consider it. I'm not sure how we aould be able to work on Thrown_Hammer's car in your backyard though

Dave

Ralph, I hope the oil spots on the driveway aren't from the 911...

Cheers

Hey who said we want them back here.

I am of course kidding, but are you kidding me? Is Shawn really coming back after all that they went through to get out there? That really sucks!

PS. BTW we can fish for Salmon here in Indiana believe it or not. Of course there is just a minor problem of PCB in the fat and meat.

Aw man, that's a real bummer. Never even had a chance to get a good suntan, car-jacking, or anything.

The more I think about it, the more I am kind of leaning for Saturday, July 1st as I have to work on Monday the 3rd and could use the 2nd for clean-up and rest. It's all up to Shawn and his family though...

Chris, we'll be sure to get a cake with some candles for you. Are you able to legally drink yet? Are you going to bring your "friend" with you?

Jeff, that's blasphemy, you can eat off the top OR bottom of the motor. What do you think of the Tyee? My wife actually hooked and landed the one in the image. That one's a baby, only 39 lbs. though caught not too far away from you...

Dave, George, Nostatic, hope you guys can come and feel free to bring "the other half" if applicable and kids...

I know there are some decent salmon runs in the Great Lakes but would have to be honest and say I don't think I'd ever go target them...

Shawn, you out there? Have you heard anything about your status yet, is this BBQ going to happen?

Ralph

Ralph,

Its good of you to pull through with such a terrific event for one of our Midwest brethren, even more so under such unfortunate circumstances. You guys sure know how to throw a nice BBQ on short notice, a sort of "smash and grab" job.

(PS: Can we get a Sticky on this? Or wait, what are the rules again? Bah, whatever just trying to help.)

I can make it on the 1st. Chris, maybe we can caravan down there together. I will pass by Anaheim Hills on the way down.

I am here! Saturday works for me. Paul has Bec's Targa and is tinkering on it. The wrenching party fell thru due to scheduling issues so I just dropped it off last night.

I am marking Saturday the 1st of July down on the calander. Maybe if we really luck out we can show up in Bec's Targa and my new Baja Bug!

Forgive me Master Shawn, I had felt a disturbance in the force.

Let's just say I hope to be making a trip into the desert with a fistful of dead presidents and return with a Baja that rivals The great GruppeB-tul.

Aww, thanks Ralph. BTW if I didn't drink, just imagine how much better my pictures would come out. Don't know on the friend yet, I'll have to ask.

It's settled than, Saturday July 1st it is and anytime after 3 pm is fine...

Matthew, we have a good group of guys here in Orange County, so if it wasn't me hosting it surely would have been someone else. I'm not sure what constitutes getting a "sticky" but I'll leave that to the moderators if one is warranted in this instance...

Andy, hopefully you and guest(s) can make it, the toll road makes it quick and easy, although somewhat expensive.

Dan, I won't mince words, it'll be a trek for you down here unfortunately, but at least the traffic will be lighter than on a weekday (trying to find a silver lining).

Shawn, you're not going to scare my neighbors with the Baja are you? Remember, I still have to live here...

Kids are invited, our 6-year old has plenty of toys and games to play with and we also have a basketball hoop in the driveway and ESPN Gamezone set-up in the garage. I don't have a pool, but if it's hot I'll pick up one of those plastic jobs from Toys-R-Us so they can bring their swimsuits and splash around. Worst case I'll turn on the sprinklers in front and they can run around till their hearts content...

Ralph
