replacing bumper
i would like to replace the bumper on my '68 911L. it currently has the rs bumper and the fenders have flares from a long wheel base (69-73) 911. i would like to replace with a bumper from a '72 911 (not s style) keeping in mind a cleaner line-up with the flares. my question is will a LWB bumper fit a SWB car. if so how much trouble will it be? i am aware of the cosmetic differences.

I think you can use a LWB rear (you didn't say, but I assume you mean rear) bumper to a SWB car...the distance from the rear of the car to the rear of the wheel opening being shorter on the LWB, so the bumper is shorter. The front ends of the bumper will be about 2 3/8" further back from the wheel arch than your stock bumper. Measure and see where the bumper end will fall relative to the back of the flare and see what you think. I don't have a photo w/ me of the rear of the 2 cars, so I'm not sure.

sorry, i neglected to say it is the front bumper i would like to replace. the rear bumper is from a long wheel baseLWB on my short wheel baseSWB. it fits perfectly. the previous owner did an excellent job in aligning bumper to rear wheel flare. that is why i would like to replace current rs bumper from a LWB 911.
