LA Porsche Boxter/Classic 911 Rentals

I'm hoping the LA contigient can lend a bit of advice or steer me in the right direction here.

The wife and I are flying out to LA (Santa Monica area) for a wedding at the end of the month and will be renting a car for a few days. As we don't get out there too often and a have a day or so on our own, we'd love to take a drive of PCH1, Mulhullad and some of LA's many scenic and fun roads. (I'd alsolove to visit Henry and Supertech and any other places you can reccomend.)

Rather than drive a basic rental, I'm hoping to rent either a Boxter (manual of course) or ideally an early 911 Targa or even a 356 convertible.

Anyone have any ideas how to make this happen without breaking the bank?

Not many places I know of that rent older cars but you could try some exotic car rental places.

There is no commercial operation that I know of in L.A. that rents older cars like 356's or 911 Targas. But as mentioned, Budget in Beverly Hills can get you any new sports car you desire as long as your credit card limit's high enough. I think a few days in a Boxster could run you north of $1,000. Have fun!

When you get to LA, you will be spending so much time in traffic that you won't do half of what you think you will AFA driving. Henry's is 100 miles from LA, give or take, but it would be an all day trip to see him. Just a run up to TRE (35 mi.) is a half day for me and that's using the mid morning lull, if there's such a thing. Being based in SM gets you close to the Mulholland area, the Peterson Automotive Museum and a few Porsche shops. A drive out of SM north thru Malibu and further is nice. In fact, there are some great stretches of scenery up that way. Lots of commuter traffic and lots of police with laser.

If you want a nice day run, make it up to Santa Barbara or even beyond. Some fantastic roads up that way. You could come this way going south, but thers's nothing but city for 50 miles then there's some coast line that looks just like the stuff up north. On Saturdays and some Sundays there are some car gatherings that are pretty good. Some are up along the 101 just below the Santa Monica mountains and canyons (Mulholland) and one very nice one down towards Laguna Beach (also very nice) called Crystal Cove.

Seee if you can get someone here to mail you a copy of Miss Information's Automotive Calendar Of Events. They don't seem to have a website.

Be careful if you see Diedrich in an Enzo. I hear they haven't found him yet.
