SRP front sway bar without removing gas tank?

I read a post about the tarret sway bar and that it can be installed without removing the gas tank.
Anyone installed the Smart racing bar without removing tank? I was able to get the backing plate on the pass side but can't even get the backing plate past the tank on the drivers side. It looks to me that tank removal is a must but if anyone has any tricks/ideas, please pass along.
Thanks.

Use a coat hanger to hold the plate in place until you get the first bolt engaged.

With the SRP backing plate, the bolts are used as studs on the backing plate. With the bolts on the backing plate, there doesn't seem to be enough room between the gas tank to slide the plate with bolts into place.
If it was just the backing plate, I could get the plate back but not with the studs installed.

I see.

Moving the gas tank is easy enough, you don't need to disconnect the lines. Just remove the clamps, lift it with a jack and slide it over an inch.
