Shift Knob Removal
Ok here's an easy one, but not for me. I have a 76 911S. To remove the shift knob do you unscrew it or pull it off. I'm having problems doing either one. Is there a trick to this? Thanks

The knob is pressed on you will need a special tool to remove it and not damage the knob

I made a tool out of a small piece of spruce 3/4 inch plywood. Just drill a hole a little smaller then the knob diameter and cut a notch in the board to slip it over the shift lever. A few taps on the board with a mallet should do the job.
Not very elegant, but it did the job and didn't mar the knob. Just to be safe, I suppose you could protect the knob with duct tape before you started. |

Be careful with trying to get the shift knob off! It can be on there very, very tight, and if you damage it, a new one is pretty darn expensive! Unless you absolutely have to get it removed for some reason, I would just leave it alone!
