what is the thread size of the rear lap belts
 

The rear lap belts in the body work you know the seats you can't sit in ;) have a thread and I want to know what the size of that is and is it a speical thread like Metric Fine etc etc

18 hrs to Le Mans Classic and the clock is ticking...and my harness is not in....ekk!!

Pretty sure seat belts are not metric, they are almost all inch, fine thread, bastard size. Maybe so we won't put a cheap bolt in it's place?

I don't think so...I've posted on this topic many times before...

Many people believe they're 11 mm until they turn past 4 complete turns and get terrible cross-thread. I guess you *could* force it , though...

Common convention for all the world's cars is 7/16-20 UNF fine pitch for seat belts...

Dunno...maybe it was different in '69 but I really don't think so....

7/16 = 0.4375" | 11mm = .4331"

20 tpi = .050" per thread | 1.25 mm pitch = 0.0492 in

Easy to think they are the same...but I'm pretty sure Chris is correct.

The cars are metric but the seat belts were still imperial for some time until they changed over to metric.. ( Seat Belt suppliers )

OK now ALL I need to do is get a drill and drill some holes and add my harness to the car and that's another job off my list..

I went down to the Ferry with the first batch of guys I will join them tomorrow...

It's all go.......

OK. By chance I needed to install one of these bolts and you're right -- it's a 7/16-20.

.... I don't believe any cars' seat belts are metric..not even today...although I may be convinced with compelling counter-argument.

My car seat belt bolts have UNF threads but metric heads that accept a 17 mm wrench. This may be part of the confusion.

Possible that the 7/16"-20 pitch bolt uses an 11/16" head ( 0.6875").....compares well with 17mm ( = 0.6693")
