What, if any, factory undercoating was on the original aluminum license plate panel for the 70S? Anyone with an original 70S care to feel under their panel?
I know the bumpers had undercoating. I'm looking at an aluminum panel that is being reported to be totally original.

I just had taken my 100% original unmolested 71S apart for resto and noticed that there is no undercoating at all on the back of the license panel. Only the original red paint over white primer. Plus, it's aluminum which doesn't rust and being so close to the muffler, I wouldn't think undercoating would be a good idea anyway. Hope this helps, Allan

Alan nailed it. No undercoating. The factory replacement panels come primered, the repop pieces I've seen are left in shiny aluminim.

Michael...you still may be looking at an original panel, if aluminum. Dealerships were known to do their own undercoating back in the day, and it ended up being sprayed in some pretty silly areas. I recall one VERY POed owner of a trombone cooler car. The dealership bozos had undercoated the oil lines and the cooler! Not exactly the best for heat transfer...

I have a 71T that's the last 1971 D-programme 911T coupe built at Stuttgart and it's coated. Tangerine paint (original color) is under the coating.
However, the car was originally sold in Michigan and the coating could have been added there.
