1969 Silver (Color Code 6851-L)
Does anyone have a picture of a 911 in this color? My car's color was originally this silver, but it was given a repaint to it's current red some time before I bought it. Recently a chip of the red came off and I saw the silver underneath and kind of like it. I was curious how a whole 911 would look with this color.
Anyone? |
hi John, I'm not sure what my paint code is, but here's my silver 69E, sorta washed out in the pic.

It's funny, I was thinking of your car which I saw last year at Lemon Tree Thai. But the color exposed on my door is much lighter. It seems more like the wheel color shown in your picture.
Is your car an original color? It looks like 6851 was the only silver offered from that time, the rest were grays. |
John, my car has been repainted, and it wasn't done well, so it really could have been any silver they had on the shelf at the time. That said, I really like it. There are some sand and gray tones in it that give it depth.
The wheels are RSR anodize BTW. Are you planning on stripping and painting your car yourself? |

I may strip it, but I certainly am not going to spray it. Even for a track car, I'd want it to have a nice coat on it -- and that is definitely not one of my skill sets. I've got some good recommendations on a shop across town from me. I've seen his work and it looks good to me. What was your thought? - John |
John, we are in the same boat. I kept these shots because my (now) red '69S was originally silver. Here are shots of a 1969 911S with original paint:

Damon???
kenikh; Wow. That color is growing on me quickly. I could picture it with some highlights of the Adriatic Blue that I was originally thinking about. I'm liking it even better since TimT just made a bright blue 911 race car here in the NE, so why have two? |
Damon is Series 900 (Pelican screen name) up in NH.
some of his work. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/210444-how-gulf-livery-73-rsr.html |
Ok. Now I gotcha. He was definitely in my plans since I'm planning on splurging to have him put the chassis on his rack to ensure that everything is square before I have the cage put in. Everything is budget related, the more expensive the service, the slower it goes. It's a good thing that I'm into the zen of the build rather then the gratification of having the car done now.
The focus for me is on having the right things done to have a good race car, and not get distracted on non-essential (ie: things that won't make me faster) expense opportunities. |
