911 vs 944 Turbo tailing arms
I'm installing a 2.2L 911 engine in a 1966 VW Bus and it won't quite fit. I need to know if the trailing arms from a 911 are longer than a 944 Turbo. On the Bus from the center of the torsion housing to the center of the rear wheel is 16.5 inches and its nearly identical to the 944. If it's longer I can push the torsion housing forward the amount I need. Any other thoughts would be great. Thanks, Eric.

If it can wait until tommorrow I've got a Carrera arm sitting on a shelf at the shop, I'd be happy to measure it for you.

I have lots of time. I have the VW Bus, 911 engine and 944 turbo already but its still in mock up mode. 944 is still in one piece though (engine fire). Thanks in advanced.

So you need the effective length of the arm, i.e. how far from the pivot to the axle centerline correct? Or do you just want the length of the arm from pivot point to the axle bearing?

Mr Boom,
Thanks again for doing this. The drawing below should be pretty straight forward. I need the x value, which on the 944 is right around 16.5 inches. My drawing is not great but the item on the right is the rotor and the small circle on the left is the center of the torsion bar looking at the rear suspension from the left side. ![]() Eric Last edited by ChesapeakeVW; 07-07-2006 at 11:37 AM.. |
