Lightbulb Vacuum leaks in a CIS system - 78SC Euro

Is there a checklist for checking all possible vacumm leak areas in CIS?

I did a search, and found an GIGANTIC amount of information on this topic, but I am interested more now in a scaled-down checklist type of approach.

I'm thinking a checklist would be very useful.

Any ideas or voulnteers to start one?

I will compile all input to this thread if enough responses are submitted.

Thanks!

-Tom

I can't provide you with an exhaustive list, but I replaced every vacuum hose on my car and still had a vacuum leak. When I removed the CIS from the engine during an engine swap, I found the airbox was cracked in half (in the middle, near the seam) and the rubber seals on the intake runners were shot, although they looked "good" while on the engine. You really have to inspect carefully!

Art, these ar exactly the type of stories I seem to run across regarding mid-year CIS vacuum leaks.

I wonder if there is a book I could check for all possible leaks....

I haven't found a "book", but actually a combination of documents, the most helpful being the online vacuum/fuel/electric diagrams here on this board and then the posts (especially by Warren and Jim Sims). The Bentley manual doesn't cover my car ('74), but I've been told it's a great book if you have the "right" car (SC), so you might want to get that book. Here is a link to the docs that have helped me the most... (these are for your '78 SC)

Look around at the online diagrams here on this site, they are very helpful, especially if you can zoom in and print the section you need.
