The answer to this question is yes, but the work will be extensive if it is done correctly. Structurally, the car will have to be strengthened, although it is easier to do this on a Targa than a coupe because the coupe would loose its structural integrity. I would call a few high end conversion companies. One company comes to mind right off... Straman out in California does wonderful work on Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc. Very expensive, but they will give you the lowdown on this type of job. Good luck with this project... sounds like fun.

I'm not sure that you have to reinforce anything if you are converting from a targa. I know this used to be a fairly popular conversion, and I'm pretty sure it was done without any additional strengthening. Given the location of the targa bar, I'm not sure that it adds much structure to the car, it certainly does not give the triangulation that makes hardtop cars stiff.
You might want to try calling a few shops to see what they say. Brian |

Brian might be correct... I made a stupid assumption, which I shouldn't have, that you would remove the integrated rollbar from the targa. I would do as both of us said and call a shop that is familiar with this type of work.

while surfing around i came accross the following site that sells conversion kits. at the bottom of the 993 conversion they offer a service to convert a targa to a cabrio for $1900.00. the site is http://palmbch.net/html/porsche_993_conversion.html.
i dont know them, but it may be worth checking out at least they may give you some info on how its done. |
