New carpet install question
 

I am tackling my first project in my 1981 911 SC ( bought a couple of months ago), replacing the carpet. I read the removal and installation article but I have run into a snag. The article dealt with a center console without air conditioner controls. I have removed the console but do not know how to disconnect the air controls. Unless I can do this I can't install the center piece of carpet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
