The wait is over: the SC hits the road...and the track!

Some of you Pelicans are aware that my Father (NY65912) and myself got our hands on an 80 SC from another Pelican, with plans on turning it into a part-time street car and DE car/track weapon.

here is is in all it's stock glory. I know it's a small pic, but there isn't much to look at being that it was a stock-bodied SC.

well, here she is now:

Some of you may be looking at the pic and saying, "Ok, it's got some cool bumpers on it and a ducktail, and it's lowered, get to the good stuff!". I'm getting there...

Cobra seats and 6-point harnesses attached to an OG Racing cage. We scraped out about 30 pounds of sound insulation from this car, no joke. The P.O. really liked his sound, but who needs any other soundtrack than the Flat-6 pumping away, PMO's ingesting the atmosphere and a Monty Muffler spitting it all out?!

And what a Flat-6 it is!

46mm PMO's hint at what lies inside the engine Here's the short list:

JE Pistons
10:1 compression ratio
Ported heads
Dougherty DC40 cams
SSI's
MSD ignition
Competition valve job
Racing valve springs
TI retainers
993 headstuds
...among other things (it's still a 3.0, BTW)

wanna see it on the dyno? OK!

right now she put down a little over 250hp to the wheels @ 6500rpm.

That's all well and good, but the car has to turn right? Sure it does. It's sitting on almost every part out of the Elephant Racing catalog. 29mm front and 32mm rear torsion bars, fully adjustable swaybars, poly-bronze bushings all around, Bilstein shocks and more.

What's that? Brakes? 930 Turbo brakes at all 4 corners haul the car down.

So, there you have it. We'll be bringing this car to Watkins Glenn for a Metro PCA DE weekend next week to see how she does. It's light, it makes good power, it turns well and it stops well. Pops should have some fun. Don't worry, I'm going to co-drive it starting next season. Can't let him have all the fun

Big, BIG thanks to Bill Rudtner and his crew at Rudtner's Racing for building this car, and for generally being a bunch of cool guys who love what they do, and it shows!

decent pics coming this weekend. all of these pictures were taken in haste.

oh, and the car is plenty quick

Hey Mike,

The car is really coming along well. Duck tail was a good choice too.
I put your shaved rear bumper on my car last weekend. It's still yellow, but I wanted to see how it looked anyway. It fit well with the bumper shocks you sent also. Only one bummer... I did snap one of the studs.
I think some of the threads on it got a little jacked up and made it difficult to tighten, and then it got real easy. (whoops). The bumper is still rock solid on the car though. When I have the car painted I'll have a new stud welded on. Hope all is well. Keep the shiny side up!!

We'll find out Saturday. The car is back at Rudtner's for a little bit of fine tuning, and Bill is going to put in on the scales while it's there. We're ALL curious to see what it weighs after it's diet.

Glad you like it Too bad about the stud, but these things happen.

Nice car! I can't wait to see it in orange. Are you keeping the flag mirrors? I'd go with something racier.

we're tossing around the idea of either 935 "cup" mirrors or Aero mirrors. For now, these will suffice. But I agree, it needs something more suited to the overall look of the car.

We will be in attendance. Dad is driving and I'm the self appointed crew chief.

See you there

Mike, she's a beauty - even with the current color! (but Signal sounds sweet - not sure I've ever seen an SC in Signal). Anyway, congrats!!

Are those Fuchs anodized? I'm leaning pretty hard toward having my black Fuchs ano'd just like that.

Nope. They're just beat up and brushed with some scotchpads.

Good looks don't have to be expensive

It sure does. Its first trick? It's blue!

It's got a few tricks up it's rounded sleeves . My favorite trick is when people see that *gasp* it's an automatic

I'll be driving it at the Riesentoter DE at Pocono North in September. Looking forward to that one

MA Shaw is where we got all the 'glass.

The fit is exceptional for fiberglass. Excellent quality, nice and sturdy. Highly recommended!
