Seat Height Problem
I had decided to purchase an early 80s 911SC. But when I sat in one with a sun roof, my head was hittng the headliner quite hard. I am only moderately tall, 6'2", but my height is in my body, not the legs. I have been searching for such a car without a sunroof, but these seem to be very rare. I have read that in 86 Porsche recognized a problem for taller owners, and made a change in the seats or added some adjustment. I see cars in the Carrea class (86-89) advertised with six-way power seats. Is this what I need or just what do I look for? I understand that 87-89 is a very good series for the 911.
Any tall owners out there who can give me some good advise? Hank |

I am your height and own an 87 Carrera with the electric seat. When the seat is all the way lowered I have ample head room. I notice that the driver's seat will go lower that the passanger{non electric}. Terry

Hank:
I am 6'3", have a 1983 991SC with a sunroof, and just fit under the sunroof. However, this is probably because I have a Sport Seat, which came as an option when I bought it new. The Sport Seat has a lower seat cushion, which allows more torso height. Usually you can find such seats, usually in black, at parts swap meets. They shouold be much cheaper than electric seats, and less trouble. Also try sitting a little closer to the wheel and cranking back the seat back to recline more, and that should be a temporary fix until you find a lower seat. I have to do this when I wear a helmet at Drivers'Ed on race tracks. It works well for short times; it will kill your back on long trips. |
