All,
So, I replaced my defunct windshield washer pump. Ready to bask in the glow of satisfaction that only comes from a wiper-cleaned area in the midst of a bug graveyard, I pulled the trigger... The right side nozzles hosed the inside of the garage door (shouldn't be a problem at speed) while the left side sat smugly, doing nothing. Perhaps it joked about my parentage in thickly accented English, I don't know. What I do know, is that the 'intensive' washer sprays through both nozzles like a Wagnerian soprano. WTF? Is this the "T" check valve? The one directly beneath the driver's side nozzle? I have no diagram of the later washer system which shows the intensive washer system, so I have to burden you all. Thank you. Chris

The check valves have little springs and stoppers in them. Over time they get gunked up and corroded and don't "plung" any more. You can also remove the nozzle and clean out the little holes with a straight pin (push pin) . You can also use the straigh pin to rotate the little nozzles and re-aim them to your windshield.

You need to break down the problems you've identified.
Yes....if one side ( or both) is plugged, it is likely the little check valves..one for each side of the car. One is a "L" and the other is a "tee" as I recall. Yep...clean ( better to replace). Aiming is like any other car. The squirts are ball/sockets with a hole in the ball. Need a small needle to position ( aim) and possibly clear. - Wil

A quick blast of compressed air into the nozzles did wonders for mine. This was with the hose off at the pump, kind of a reverse-flushing of the lines.

10:1 you could have disassembled the old pump, cleaned it and put it back. The gears and thrust plate in the pump are brass.
Yes, you probably just need a new check valve.

Thanks guys.
Gently clamping the hose between the 'L' and 'T' check valves, along with a long pump run seem to have taken care of the problem. As for the spray pattern, it's perfect at 85mph into a headwind. A little tweak and it should be fine. Full flow to only one nozzle was likely the cause of the previous overshoot. masraum, I plan to clean up and keep the old pump for a spare. With no certain time to troubleshoot, I needed to ensure that the quick option was available. Thanks again. Chris
