Window Seal Replacement on Targa... or Leaks!
I've been living with the leaks for some time now, on my 1976 911 Targa 2.7L.When I finally decided to have the seals replaced by a PCA recommended pro (in Monterey) he said he'd quit doing those years ago, because 1) it took too long, 2) was a pain, and 3) never came out exactly right (that is the leaks were not entirely fixed). While I can live with number 1 and 3, it's number 2 that's the toughest =)! I haven't been able to find a real detailed tech source for the seal replacement. That is... what kind of adhesive to use, how much and by what method one must 'shave' the new steal to make it fit right (the above mentioned expert said that this was necessary), tips and mantras. So, I'd like to know if you know of a good source for this info.

i feel your pain, i have been in the process of replacing all the seals on my "84 cabriolet, and they still leak. the best adhesive is not the 3m super adhesive, it suxs (from experience and from the advise of a porsche tech). i beleive there is one labeled with the numbers like 11-200 or something close to those numbers that he recommends. the real problem/challenge is trying to adhere the new seal like they came from the factory, very difficult, very time consuming, and very frustrating. i've found a local rag-top shop that my local porsche dealer uses and this spring when i have him replace my top, i'm going to have him replace all the seals, he said it would not be a problem, meanwhile, i'm out $700 for all the new seals i bought and tried to replace myself. they are not even close to the way they came from the factory, they still leak. my advice, don't do it yourself unless you have the patience of job, and find a convertible/sunroof shop that works on porsche that your local porsche dealer contracts out jobs. good luck!
