2.7 COLD START PROBLEM
 
I HAVE A 2.7 WITH CIS THAT IT TAKES 2 OR 3 TIMES TO COLD START, AND I HAVE TO KEEP THE GAS PEDAL A LITTLE PRESSED FOR 20 SECS, OR ELSE THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF. AFTER THOSE 20 SECS IT IDDLES PERFECTLY.
ANY IDEA?

My first guess would be the warm up regulator..my second guess would be the accumulator IF it started after you left the key on for a long time for the fuel pump to change tone/pump up...

I used to have a 1974 2.7l and there is a little hand throttle alongside the handbrake. Use that to keep the revs up while it is warming up.

In fact, this propblem could be both the warm up regulator and the fuel accumulator. The accumulator is the cheaper to replace, and since it needs to be replaced periodically (though quite a long time between replacements), there is a check valve built in which will keep pressure in your CSI system. If this fixes it, you are home "free".

However, if it is the warm up regulator, it is also a relatively cheap fix. It can be tested by an authorized dealer, or even an independent. If you don't wish to spend any money on it, it is only an inconvenience; no harm will occur if you keep the revs up until it's warm and it runs without the hand throttle or your foot on the pedal.

Let us know which it is, as we all like to hear our opinions/diagnoses confirmed....Andras

ACTUALY, THE MOTOR SHUTS DOWN BECAUSE IT CHOKES ON THE FIRST 10 TO 20 SECS. SO IF I PULL THE THROTTLE BEFORE THE MOTOR STARTS IT WONT START AT ALL. IT LOOKS TO ME THAT THOSE 20 SECS ARE NECESSARY TO BURN ACCUMULATED FUEL IN THE PISTONS.

If it's flooding on start up like you say, then you could have a bad thermo-time switch.

The TT switch is supposed to limit the amount of time the cold start valve stays on while cranking.
