Do I need a window regulator?

So my driver window goes up just fine about 3/4 of the way, Then it makes a big clunk and the handle just spins with no window movement. If I help the window up while a turn the crank, it will go all the way up. I don't think it was designed this way. Should I be looking for a new regulator, or just an adjustment?

This is a 69 Targa and I can't seem to find these in the catalog.

Joe,

Same problem I just went through with my 79 Targa.

I pulled the window regulator out, and the teeth at the top of the regulator were worn out making the crank spin when the window was about 2" from the top.

I picked up a used one, and it is working again.

Getting the window regulator out and back in was a major pain. But, it can be done..just take your time.

Do a search for "window regulator" at the top, I posted a picture of what mine looked like.

Hope that helps,

Kris

It could be a worn regulator or a failing pivot pin. Either way the regulator will need to come out.

I had both of my Pivot pins fail about 6 months apart.. Prior to them failing, my window acted like your window.

The first one took about 6 hours to R&R, the second one took about 2 hours.

Do a search for pivot pin for more info.

Pelican can get them at the same price as the other fellows with the glossy catalog mailed to your home.

I've read that the window and window frame need to come out of the pre 74 cars in order to get the regulator out and back in. Correct?

You do not need to remove the window or the frame or at least with my 73.5 I did not.

After you release the window from the regulator, tape it about 1/3 up to allow you to maneuver the regulator out.

I think this is a project in Wayne's 101 projects book or it is shown as a tech article at the main Pelican BBS.
