aftermarket dash pads

Anyone have any experience with aftermafket (vinyl) dash pads that are available through Performance, Automotion, Best Deal, etc? These seem to cost about $100 compared to $450 or so for a new dash. Are they a waste of time and $?

Thanks,
Jim

As an alternative, I had mine recovered by a local guy who put in my headliner. I thought it turned out well. He stitched a seam around the instruments and everything glued down quite nicely. He did it all for $125 Can, including vinyl, although I think he would not do it again for that price. The catch is you still need to remove the dash.

I have an aftermarket dashpad in my '78SC. It looks the same as stock for a fraction of the cost. Installation is no different than for a stock unit.
