loose a/c - tape console
the center console in my '84 cabrio that's located on the floorboard in front of my gear shift is very wobbley and to make metters worse the face plate cover behind then a/c controls is cracked. with all the extra leg room in my car, i'm joking, it's almost impossible to keep from knocking this console around while driving. is there an adjustment to tighten it down or will i have to replace it altogether?

The console is secured by three scres, one either side and one hidden underneath the carpet between the front of the console and the handbrake. The screws are secured by C spring clips and they often work loose or break. To get to it all, you first remove the four black screws on the side and lift away the rear cover. This will expose the mounting screws for the console inserts and the two console screws. You can then loosen the two screws and pull back the carpet to reveal the clips. I had this problem and I simply replaced the three mounting screws with pan head screws of a slightly larger diameter and length.
Hope this helps. |
