E Handbrake Help!!
Did a search and looked at Wayne's 101 with no luck. I recently replaced my hand throttle plastic piece. Noticed the handbrakes weren't working too well. Did an adjustment and then only one was working. Checked equalizer and one of the cables had slipped off (don't know exact term but it's shaped like an E with cables from each wheel attached to top/bottom legs--supposed to be perpendicular to center of car when cables are properly adjusted). While trying to bend my fingers backwards to get the one cable end back on, the other one came off!! Now neither is attached. HELP, please! How do I get them back on since I can't grab the cable ends and there is only about an inch of room. Do I need to disconnect the cables at the wheels? Thanks!!

It's called a yoke and I removed the handle bolts to get slack, pulled it back into position after placing both cables, and put the bolts/nuts back in. Nothing fell off, thankfully. But, if you tip it one way, yes the other side wants to slip off.

Milt,
I removed the three bolts holding the entire handbrake assembly to the floor but do not have any room to work with. Did you disassemble the handbrake mechanism from its mounting? I just can't get underneath to reattach the cables to the yoke!

It's a relatively simple matter to disconnect or at least slacken the cables at the wheel hubs - then you'll have all the room you need to go ahead and hook the loops back up to the yoke. If you have a Haynes manual handy, this is one of the few areas where it actually comes in handy. You'll be back on the road in no time!

For the sake of future searchers, I got more "finger room" by pulling the heater cables to full "on" and was able to reattach the brake cables to the yoke. If that had failed, I could have detached the heater cables from the heater vents (connected to the heat exchangers) and/or the brake cables at the wheels (have to remove disk) to give myself more working room. Neither of the latter was necessary once I figured out it was the heater cables which were restricting movement of the handbrake/heater/hand-throttle assembly. Thanks to all!
