Installing Engine for 1st Time - HELP

After months of work I am just about ready to reinstall my motor - engine seal and control arm issues. I have found plenty of articles on removal but little on installation - "just reverse of removal" stuff. Would like to know, for example, things like should I regrease the CV joints, and with what, and should I grease the tranny shaft before reattaching the tranny? Anybody have any notes or know of a good article or manual (Haynes is not good) that would walk me through it - first timer if you could not tell!

Thanks in advance!

I hear "101 Projects for your 911" is a good read. ;)

Seriously, do a search here under "engine installation or something similar. There is a wealth of information on installing the engine.

Yes to both of your questions, BTW. Grease the CV's and the trans shaft.

Get the Bentley SC Repair Manual, lots of good info!
(Including details on CV joints)

Ive done two solo drops and one install so there are plenty here that are more experienced than me, but heres the best advice I can offer:

Beg, borrow, or steal an ATV jack if you dont already have one.

Its A LOT easier to do with the engine and tranny already mated together. If the gearbox is still in the car, drop it and mate it to the motor before you reinstall.

Some of these guys can do this stuff in their sleep. I cant. There is no way I would even attempt another engine install without an ATV jack or without the gearbox already mated to the motor.

Make sure that the braided hose on the oil line to the thermostat doesn't catch on the engine tin and bend the tin and rip the hose at the crimp (don't ask). If the engine start to lean to the passenger side (U.S.) check that. Don't forget the ground strap. It is easier if you do it when the package is still not all the way in. Install the back up light switch while the engine is on the ground. As Shuie said, I am no expert, only done it once, so someone check my info. Cheers, Mike

1980 sc -- Question: when you install engine-tranny does the trans mounting bracket come out? I'm having a problem with the getting the tranny with the 4- studs over the tranny - brace/mount and the tranny shift rod into the cabin access hole.

Seems it would be so easy if I removed the tranny mounting bracket??

I did a search, no info obtained, any help appreciated.
