Tested an 80SC, clutch question

I took a test drive in an 80SC today, 85K miles on it. My question is on the way the clutch seemed to work.
I pressed in all the way to the floor, shift in to first, as I let the clutch out it seemed to enage very quickly. There did not seem to be "slip" the clutch so to speak.
I'm used to the clutch in my 328is, I know the SC is going to be differnt, but is the above near normal? (Yes I've done a search , and find one post that almost says the above is normal.

Another thing I noticed, first couple of shifts into 4th were almost in to reverse! Is there no lockout.

The car has records, which I've not looked at, so I'm not sure if the clutch has been replaced.

And before anyone says anything, I just trying to get more info so I can either pass or THEN get the PPI.

Thanks

Jay

first question: have you ever owned a 911? If not, the shifting will seem strange to you. There IS a spring lockout for 5th/Reverse, and if not the spring in the shifter may be broken? There is no stock spring for 1st/2nd, so you almost have to place it into gear.

Not sure about the slip, but maybe you're just not used to a 911's transmission? If the clutch IS indeed slipping, you'll know it at higher gears (like 4th) and flooring it at a fairly low rpm (like 2 to 2.5k).

good luck brother

Not yet on the 911 ownership, so I'm not used to it. The few times I've driven one have been far apart.
The action of the clutch engagement is quite different from the BMW, just looking for a good discription of what normal is.
I've done enough study to know the 1st/2nd gear enagement thing, so I could handle that. Almost getting it into reverse at 4000rpm was a fright! So I'm guessing that lock out spring must be broken.
No apparent clutch slip in 4th.

Thanks for the info, oh and I got the photos of your car too. Unfortuantely a bit to far a way for a test drive this afternoon.

yes, the helper spring seems to give an eccentric feel to the clutch. properly adjusted, it will not be so "exaggerated". i stalled mine on the test drive.
