German Parts & Restoration experience

Just wanting to vent a little here guys.

In my search for replacment wheel studs for the H&R adapters I have, H&R gave me the phone number to German Parts & Restoration in Ca.

I called them in hopes of ordering what I need and having the problem solved.

I was greeted by Dave on the other end who after I explained what I needed replied "I've had a very stressful day and working with something that only costs about $10, i'm really not caring to mess with"

Hmmmm, excellent business relations.

I actually had great experiences with Dave before Pelican existed but my purchases where of several thousands. I now buy from pelican when I need anything.

I've dealt with Dave quite a bit over the past 10+ years and found him to consistently be great.

All stories have two sides, sorry, but me personally, I'm not buyin' yours.

I try to do my purchases from our host as well.
Unfortunately, no one here at pelican can provide more detail on the studs they sell than to tell me that a 14mm wrench "almost goes over the knurled section".
Not quite enough information to know if they will work or not, LOL !

All I can do is relate the dealings I just had with "Dave".
I'm not selling.

What happened is the truth, period.

It seems a shame that I must have to spend hundreds or thoudands of $$$ just to be treated as a human being.
Maybe that's what I have to look forward to dealing with Porsche people.
I came from the drag racing and hot rod crowd, where people actually enjoy helping others no matter how small the monetary amount.

pa,
Welcome to the community. I have had no dealing with GPR, but can promise your treatment is nothing close to the norm for the Porsche parts houses and enthusiasts out there. You'll often see on this board where people are sending other members parts for free - we're tightly knit and we usually go way out of the way for each other. No different, I bet, from your drag and rod crowd. Here's hoping your future experiences are better!

I'm certainly not trying to sart one of those "drama" threads i see here now & then.
It just irked me deeply to have the guy at GPR say that to who knows, maybe a great future customer?
It's nearly then equalled by being called a liar when i relate what happened.

Sure there's 2 sides to every story, my side i posted.
IRL, my credibility is far reached. No one appreciated being treaty as "less" nor do they appreciate being labled a liar based on simple opinion.

Just irks me, period.

Hats off to members such as Tsuter and others that contribute so much to this board.
Hats off to Kennedy Motorsport in Daytona Beach, FL. Their track car is awesome.

My few dealing with GPR were before the "merger". They were helpful and sent my parts promptly. I havent done any business with them in awhile so things may have changed. Pelican gets first ring when I need something.

pa, like dtw said there are plenty of people in the Porsche community that will go that extra mile for another member of the community. If Dave was having "a bad day" its no reason to take it out on a customer. No matter what the $ amount.

I would call back and ask to speak to the owner or manager and relate your experience. If Dave is the owner let him know how that made you feel and see what he has to say. Might be he went home feeling awful and completely regrets what he said to you. Might be he does not give a ****. Atleast voice your opinion to the people who ticked you off. Then you will know for sure if it was an anomaly or you need to find another source for parts.

dave is the owner and I use to deal with him and spend thousands when i had my 914-6 with him only. But once he told me I was "cherry picking him" because I was getting parts from worldpac and also him and asking for better pricing. Well its always worth asking for special pricing and if he was offended then I bid you fare well. It is almost daily that I am asked if I sell direct and cheaper then by from my distributors. I can;t by our agreements but I know thats not dave deal. He can be a jerk but also he can be great. oh well what can you do??

I know Dave. Wayne knows him better. They have worked between themselves in the past and may still do so. I think Dave has bent over backwards a few too many times to be helpful only to find that there is no loyalty. Kind of like Ben's experience. Some companies can tell a customer when he's a PITA. Some are too big and impersonal to even know who's who.

Dave happens to be one of the former. He's not alone.

Wow this is really hard to believe, I have called Dave for a measily low dollar part a few times. In each one of these instances Dave has bent over backwards to help me. He has even given me a call back in the evening after business hours and presumably on his own time to help me.
IMHO Dave and GPR have been a true asset to the Porsche community

Well, there ARE always two sides to every story......

H&R probably gave you GPR's # because they are good at solving issues like that. I buy here from Pelican and also buy at GPR. Good service at both

I have bought numerous things from GPR and even when they were "penny sales" I was treated great.

I happened to be on the phone today with GPR and asked him what was the story on this situation. I was told that Dave called you personally to try to resolve the issue and you hung up on him rudely saying "you are wasting my time"

The problem I suspect is you! Don't complain about customer service when you pull that crap and then come here and tell one side of the story.! This should have never been brought to this forum in the first place.

Just my opinion though.....

Actually, I did hang up on him tonight because he was wasting my time.
I have no time for frivolous tidings with GPR when i'm in the middle of talking with my partner concerning real business and real dollars.

What I related Dave said when I inquired about the parts I needed is EXACTLY the words he said and the tones he used. Simplu asking about aquiring a part in no way constitutes a PITA.

Tonight, I simply returned to Dave the treatment he expelled to me.
Amazing how it's OK in one instance yet, downtrodden the next.
What goes around, comes around. Like it or not.

If what I say is soooo incorrect, why then did Dave call to appologize for his rudeness ??????

So he was nice enough to call back and apologize??

You never know what happened to somebody. Maybe his daughter just died. It happens.

I also suspect he didn't call to opologize, only to try to resolve the issue which seems to be his style and not yours. I think you have shown who is actually wasting peoples time.......sigh

No, he did not call back the day I tried to order the parts.
He only called AFTER he heard that I posted it here.

And 84toy, this IS a public forum for all to post their experiences is it not?
Or, is it subject to your censorship and approval only?
84toy, this is NOT an argument between you and I, it is an open forum.

Fact is this, I called GPR to buy parts, I was not rude either directly or implied in any way and was treated very poorly with reference to my small order not being worth his time.
It's wrong, plain and simple to treat ANY customer in that respect.
Whatever Dave's day brought upon him had NOTHING to do with me whatsoever.

Let me see, when he says to me on the phone "i'm calling to appologize" it sure seems to me that is what he meant !

84toy, you do not know what he said to me on the phone so stop allowing "your opinion" to cloud the facts.

The guy did me wrong and calling to appologize is his own admission.
Stop trying to defend what he did with statements that do not reflect the facts!

It takes a man to apologize, it takes a bigger man to accept the apology, I guess you're not a bigger man.

Obviously your parents never taught you to accept an apology, but to return an eye for an eye.
