Help! 2.7 to 3.2 conversion: Throttle Linkage
Hi Guys,
I am finally finishing up my 2.7 to 3.2 conversion after what seems like forever. However I am currently having problems hooking up the throttle linkage between my 915 tranny and the throttle body. When I look at my dads 88 there is a throttle box towards the rear left of the engine bay which then has a cable to connect to the front of the throttle linkage. I can't seem to find any diagrams or pictures of the throttle body/ tranny throttle connection. Can someone help detail how the 3.2 engines connected to the 915 transmisisons? Any pictures would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, |
bump.
Can someone who has an early 3.2 engine expalin to me how there throttle cable connects to the engine. |
The 3.2's use the same throttle "rods" that the earlier cars do. It wasn't until the 3.6's that Porsche switched to a cable.
The cable and box you see on your dad's car are for the cruise control only. I have a 3.2 in my '71 and it appears the bellcrank on the front of the engine is near the same place it was on my stock engine. You use the stock linkage off the 915 to the bellcrank, then the 3.2 linkage from the bellcrank to the throttle body. I think that part is correct, but I am 100% sure the cable is cruise only. |
Are you missing the throttle linkage plate? It's a roughly rectangular piece with a pivot rod that mounts to 3 studs on top of the shroud; the throttle shaft from the trans connects to it and then a separate, shorter rod extends to the throttle body.

Here's a picture of the part Jon mentions, if you have this it should be pretty straight forward.
Good Luck. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1153071750.jpg |
Thanks guys, I found out where I had to connect it however it seems that the throttle rod was a little short and putting too much tension on the throttle body and therefore over reving the car at startup. I simply cut the end that attaches to the trasmission and rebent it to give myself the extra half inch I needed. Was there any other place I could have adjusted the tension on the throttle?

I wanted to bring this post back up because the throttle rod which I cut & bent broke where I made the bend. I want to make sure I buy the right part to replace this so I don't have to cut it again. Which year/part number do I need to connect the transmission bellhousing connection to the throttle body on the engine. I have a 915 transmission with a 3.2 engine. Is the 911-423-043-00-OEM the correct part number? It is labled "Linkage Rod, 911 (1976-86)"
